50 Years of Scootering Passion – The VE (UK) Story
Our journey began in 1972, when Norrie Kerr—our founder and Managing Director—launched Scooter & Scooterist, the UK’s only scooter magazine at the time. With Scooter World having just folded, Norrie stepped in to keep the scene alive. Fondly remembered as S&S, the magazine ran for 14 years, making Norrie the longest-serving editor of a UK scooter publication to this day.
While still publishing S&S, Norrie joined Douglas Vespa in Bristol in 1980, and by 1982 he’d launched S&S Power Products. A year later, in 1983, he teamed up with Dave Webster to open Midland Scooter Centre (MSC)—Norrie on Vespa, Dave on Lambretta. Together, they built the UK’s largest scooter shop, home to the country’s top Vespa and Lambretta tuners, both UK champions with a trophy cabinet full of race and sprint wins. (Norrie officially retired from racing in 2001.)
In 1983, Norrie also secured the UK rights to Malossi, and by 1989 he left MSC to focus full-time on building Malossi UK into a wholesale powerhouse. That venture evolved into VE (UK) in 1990—and we’ve been supplying top scooter brands to UK dealers ever since.
In 2019, we opened our doors to retail customers too, while continuing to support the trade with dealer terms and expert service.
